First Assignment... Complete!

Things I know how to cook... hmmm... you are putting me on the spot here, aren't you?  I can make rice pilaf, stir fry, potatoes, spaghetti, a few kinds of soup, eggs, some kinds of chicken.  I'm trying to remember things I cooked in Kyrgyzstan... we'll leave it at that for now.  Suffice it to say, my cooking skills are paltry.

I suppose I would like to know how to cook meat.  I mean, I don't eat meat a lot, but that's mostly because I don't really know how to cook it.  I like things that have lots of stuff all mixed together--does that make sense?  Like casseroles.  That sounds kind of old-ladyish, I think.  I'm not restricting it to casseroles.  But dishes that have stuff mixed together.  I don't know, Katie!  Anything!

Yes, cheese is certainly a favorite food.  I like vegetables--pretty much all of them.  I'm not a huge fan of squash or cauliflower, but mixed in with other things I can usually tolerate anything.  I really like sweet potatoes.  I'm not a huge fan of pasta generally, but I wouldn't say it's restricted.  I can't think of any ingredients I would like to be banned. I like chicken and turkey better than beef.  I suppose I would ban ground beef, but only b/c if some type of ground meat was needed, I'd use ground turkey.  But I'm not very picky.

Our range is electric and we do have a/c, so it's not really a concern (although it is getting warmer than I'd like it to be outside).  We have an oven, toaster oven, blender, etc.  Most kitchen appliances that you'd need.  When I move to DC, that will all change, but for now, the kitchen is well-stocked.

I don't know if this is particularly helpful, but there you go!  I look forward to my first actual cooking assignment!

Lisa's First Assignment

Can you post and tell me:
a few things you know how to cook and like doing
what you're interested in learning to cook
favorite foods (cheese is obviously tops here from the way you were huffing that Whole Foods gouda)
vegetables you love
banned ingredients
and some basics about your current kitchen (is your range gas or electric, is it hot enough in CA already that you need to minimize oven use, or do you have CA air conditioning)?
